KCBX Central Coast Public Radio is an NPR Network Station in San Luis Obispo, CA that serves San Luis Obispo County, Santa Barbara County and southern Monterey County. The station broadcasts local, regional and NPR news and information programming; network programs from NPR, PRX and APM; and an eclectic music format with genres ranging from jazz and indie rock to Americana, soul and world music. KCBX has a robust online presence with news, information and music content.

Company History

KCBX was founded in 1975 as a low-power FM station in downtown San Luis Obispo, with local music and information programming. It quickly became an NPR affiliate, and began broadcasting All Things Considered, then Morning Edition, along with other network and local programs. KCBX News was founded in 2014. Over the years KCBX has grown to serve three counties on the central coast of California via two transmitters, several translators and an online presence.

KCBX presents the Live Oak Music Festival, an annual three-day eclectic music and camping festival, which was founded in 1989. Live Oak is the biggest fundraising and community engagement event for KCBX.
